INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL YOUTH LEADERS
Thank you so very much to all of you dedicated leaders for ALL that you do for the youth of your Wards. We know how much work is involved, and we have a deep love and appreciation for each of you.
As we begin this Youth Conference Trek experience, we know that you (specifically the Young Men Leaders and Young Women Presidents) will find yourselves on the front line in terms of preparing the youth to participate.
This page aims to clarify the responsibilities that need to be fulfilled prior to participating in the Trek.
PREPARATION
Preparation prior to the Trek is important to insure the maximum impact of the experience. There are many ways to spiritually and physically prepare your youth. Youth activities should be planned around these topics. Please see the How to Prepare for more information.
CLOTHING
All youth and adults who are participating in any aspect of the Trek are to wear pioneer clothing. Please see What to Wear on the Trek for detailed information. The youth are not required to make their clothing. There are many thrift shops where a pioneer outfit can be put together. If you would like the youth to learn to sew, plan an activity night where the young women make bonnets, aprons and/or skirts and the young men learn how to adapt collared shirts to "pioneer style". You could also plan an activity where all come in costume. This will ensure that everyone has the right clothing for the Trek.
WHO IS YOUR PIONEER?
Definitions of pioneer include:
The youth, in addition to the Mas and Pas, need to research and bring the history of their pioneer and be prepared to share their story.
REGISTRATION FORMS
Please see Registration Forms to download the Registration Form, Medical Form, and the Standards of Dress and Conduct Form. Adult participants must complete and sign a Registration Form and a Medical Form. A parent or guardian must complete and sign a Registration Form and a Medical Form for each youth participant. The youth must sign the Registration Form, indicating that they have read and understood the Standards of Dress and Conduct. Once the completed forms have been collected from the youth and adults participating from your Ward, please deliver them to your Stake Youth Leaders. The forms will then be mailed, along with one check from your Stake, prior to Friday, May 8, 2023 to: Christi Hansen, 4218 Encore Drive, Santa Barbara, CA 93110.
LETTERS TO YOUTH
As a surprise, each youth will receive a letter while on the Trek. This letter can be from a parent, guardian, relative, or youth leader. This is an opportunity for these adults to express their appreciation, love, dreams, and hopes for the youth and share their testimonies. It is important that a letter is done for each youth participating! Once you have all the letters from your Ward, please mail them by June 12, 2023 to: John Lund, 98 Olive Mill Lane, Santa Barbara, CA 93108.
MUSIC
The music part of the Trek is still a work in progress. Please check back for updated information. Please see Music for the music of the 2023 Trek
